Axit nitric – HNO3 được sử dụng phổ biến trong nghiên cứu, sản xuất công nghiệp, xử lý nước… Mặc dù mang lại nhiều lợi ích nhưng khi tiếp xúc và sử dụng axit nitric cần hết sức cẩn thận để hạn chế các ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe.
1. Ảnh hưởng của HNO3 đến sức khỏe
Nếu không may tiếp xúc trực tiếp, HNO3 có thể gây ra các tổn thương đến cơ thể như sau:
- Trên đường hô hấp: Nếu vô tình hít phải hơi HNO3 sẽ gây kích ứng đường thở. Trường hợp nhẹ có thể khiến ho, ngạt mũi, chảy nước mũi. Trường hợp nghiêm trọng gây khó thở cấp, sưng phổi, viêm phổi và có thể dẫn đến tử vong.
- Trên đường tiêu hóa: Khi nuốt phải đầu tiên sẽ gây bỏng đường tiêu hóa từ niêm mạc miệng, họng, thực quản đến dạ dày và nguy hiểm đến tính mạng. Đồng thời gây tiêu chảy, nôn; rối loạn tuần hoàn máu.
- Tiếp xúc với mắt: Nếu không may hóa chất bắn vào mắt sẽ gây tổn thương giác mạc, làm hỏng mắt dẫn đến mù lòa.
- Tiếp xúc với da: Khi bị dây hóa chất trên da sẽ gây phỏng da, bỏng rát, kích ứng, mẩn đỏ. HNO3 gây bỏng da do phản ứng với protein keratin, khiến da chuyển sang màu vàng. Khi được trung hòa sẽ chuyển thành màu cam.
- Nếu tiếp xúc với axit HNO3 trong thời gian dài có thể tăng nguy cơ mắc bệnh ung thư.

2. Biện pháp xử lý sự cố do axit nitric gây ra
Khi không may gặp các sự cố trong quá trình sử dụng axit nitric HNO3 cần nhanh chóng thực hiện các biện pháp xử trí theo quy định kịp thời để giảm thiểu hậu quả nặng nề trên bệnh nhân.
- Nếu axit bắn vào mắt: Ngay lập tức dùng nước sạch để rửa mắt, kết hợp nháy mắt trong 15 phút. Sau đó nhỏ mắt với dung dịch nhỏ mắt hoặc nước muối muối natri clorid 0.9% để rửa lại. Nhanh chóng đưa nạn nhân tới cơ sở y tế để được điều trị tiếp.
- Nếu axit tiếp xúc với da: Khẩn trương cởi bỏ quần áo bị dính axit, sử dụng khăn khô lau vết thương rồi rửa vùng da bị dây axit dưới vòi nước sạch (dùng xà phòng nếu có) ít nhất 15 phút để tránh vết thương bị nặng hơn. Đưa nạn nhân tới cơ sở y tế để điều trị tiếp.
- Khi hít phải hơi axit nitric: Nhanh chóng đưa nạn nhân ra khu vực thoáng khí, ủ ấm. Ngoài ra có thể thực hiện các biện pháp sơ cứu nếu bệnh nhân có những biểu hiện co giật… Đồng thời liên lạc với cơ sở y tế gần nhất để kịp thời cứu chữa.
- Nếu nuốt phải axit nitric: Trong trường hợp bệnh nhân còn tỉnh thì cho bệnh nhân súc miệng bằng nước hoặc sữa, sau đó đưa bệnh nhân đến cơ sở y tế gần nhất để cấp cứu. Trong trường hợp bệnh nhân bất tỉnh thì không cố gắng đưa bất kỳ chất gì vào miệng nạn nhân. Đồng thời không cố gắng gây nôn cho bệnh nhân.
- Khi gặp hỏa hoạn do axit nitric gây ra: Xử trí chữa cháy theo đúng quy trình. Sử dụng bột khô, bình khí CO2 hoặc dùng nước để dập lửa. Cố gắng chuyển các thùng chứa axit nitric khác ra khỏi khu vực cháy. Lưu ý là HNO3 có phản ứng mạnh với các kim loại tạo ra khí H2 gây nổ nên cần thận trọng trong quá trình chữa cháy.
- Trường hợp rò rỉ axit nitric:
– Lập tức cách ly người ra khỏi khu vực tràn axit vì axit HNO3 khi rò rỉ ra ngoài môi trường nhanh chóng bốc khói tạo hiện tượng mù axit sẽ gây tổn thương mắt, đường hô hấp. Sử dụng cát (SiO2) để phủ lên chỗ axit tràn ra.
– Sau đó dùng Ca(OH)2 ,CaCO3 hoặc NaHCO3 khan, các hóa chất kiềm tính để trung hòa, chuyển axit về dạng muối.
– Phun nước làm sạch khu vực hóa chất bị rò rỉ với tỉ lệ thể tích 1:5.

3. Những lưu ý khi sử dụng axit nitric – HNO3 để đảm bảo an toàn
Để đảm bảo an toàn khi sử dụng axit nitric cần lưu ý những điều sau:
- Axit nitric là chất oxy hóa mạnh, khi tác dụng với cyanit, bột kim có thể phát nổ và tự bốc cháy khi phản ứng với turpentine. Có thể phản ứng mạnh với kim loại tạo thành khí hydro dễ cháy, gây nổ trong không khí.
- Khi pha loãng, tuyệt đối không được đổ nước vào axit mà phải cho axit vào nước.
- Do axit HNO3 có phản ứng mạnh với kim loại nên không đựng HNO3 trong các thùng phuy kim loại. Thay vào đó đựng trong các thùng chứa bằng nhựa.
- Bảo quản tại khu vực thoáng mát, tránh xa các nguồn nhiệt, ánh nắng mặt trời. Các thùng chứa phải đậy nắp kín.
- Nền nhà phải được xây dựng bằng các vật liệu chống được axit.
